S.C.A.F.É.: SECOND CHANCES ARE FOR EVERYONE
RESTORATIVE JUSTICE PRACTICES IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Emanuel Price, Executive Director of S.C.A.F.É. and City of Portland Human Rights Commissioner, will talk about the organization he founded after he left prison and found so many doors closed to him. He founded S.C.A.F.É. to help reduce recidivism by providing support services that promote employment, empowerment, and community engagement for men in transition. Emanuel will dialogue with us about his personal story, his organization’s successes and challenges, and his hopes for the future. He will also share his work with Resolutions Northwest on restorative justice practices with students at Boise Eliot School in North Portland. This is an effort to help students and staff resolve conflict, advance racial and social justice, engage in collaborative communication, and repair harm—skills that have been shown to interrupt the “school-to-prison pipeline.” He’ll describe the successes and challenges of this work, as well as the critical steps for creating change in school culture and with individual students.
